The headquarters of Reh Kendermann GmbH Weinkellerei is located in the town of Bingen. Reh Kendermann also has its own winery with 252 hectares of vineyards in Oprisor, in south-west Romania. We also import wine brands bottled in the country of origin to Germany. As Germany’s largest export winery, we bring German wine to the whole world. One of our flagships is the world’s most successful wine brand from Germany: Black Tower. With over 10 million bottles sold each year, Black Tower is the world’s favourite German wine brand.

Winemakers’ history since 1920

Carl Reh founds a trading company for grapes, must and wine in Leiwen on the Moselle and builds his first large winery just seven years later.
1936

Carl Reh is the first winegrower in the Moselle area to store his wines in flavour-neutral containers lined with glass tiles and to purchase quality vineyards.
1949

Carl Reh receives the State Honour Award from the Minister for Agriculture, Viticulture and Forestry for his outstanding achievements in viticulture.
1956

One of the most modern wineries in Europe with a fully automated bottling plant is inaugurated in Leiwen.
1962

Carl Reh dies at the age of 64, his son Günther Reh takes over the sole management of the company.
1987

Carl Reh, grandson of the company founder, takes over the management. He continues to manage the company to this day.
1992

Acquisition of Hermann Kendermann GmbH by Kellerei Carl Reh GmbH + Co KG – with it, the successful German wine brand Black Tower.
1995

Carl Reh gives Black Tower a new, racy image: the brand becomes a sponsor of the Williams-Renault Formula 1 team.
1997

Merger of the two wineries Carl Reh and Hermann Kendermann to form Reh Kendermann Weinkellerei GmbH, based in Bingen.
1999

Andrea and Carl Reh take over 100 per cent of Reh Kendermann GmbH.
2001

Carl Reh acquires around 350 hectares of vineyards in south-west Romania, including the associated winery and vineyard buildings.
2004

The international wine magazine “Weinwelt” honours Reh Kendermann as “Riesling Winery of the Year”.
2005

Black Tower achieves sales of 1 million 9-litre cartons.
2008

Black Tower reaches the target of 12 million bottles sold. This makes Black Tower the best-selling German wine brand worldwide.
2009

Carl Reh receives the “National Wine Entrepreneur of the Year” award from Meininger Verlag.

The new bag-in-box bottling line is put into operation, doubling capacity.
2015

Reh Kendermann invests in Yapp Brothers Limited, a leading importer of French wines in England.
2015

Alexander Rittlinger, previously Head of Domestic Sales and Marketing, takes over the management of the company together with Carl Reh.
2016

Modern product innovations under the Black Tower brand are launched internationally. Both the flavoured drinks segment and a separate organic range are added to the brand.
2017

Reh Kendermann takes over the Napier Vineyards winery in Wellington, South Africa, thus continuing on its path towards the distribution of premium products.
2020

Reh Kendermann celebrates its birthday!

The company now looks back on 100 years of tradition and celebrates its anniversary with the relaunch of the successful Black Tower brand.
2021

The newly built tank storage is put into operation and offers space for around 5.5 million litres of wine.
