Wine is a natural product. The roots of the vines reach deep into the soil and draw the nutrients stored there into the grapes that are so important to us. This is not the only reason why caring for our environment and all the organisms and people associated with it is a matter close to our hearts.
As a globally active family business with subsidiaries in Europe, but also in faraway places such as South Africa, we come into contact with various forms of social and ecological challenges on a daily basis. Mastering these is part of Reh Kendermann’s intrinsic motivation.

Ecological sustainability is an important aspect of preserving our planet for future generations, and we want to be a part of this. By selecting our materials, determining the origin of our wines and using natural resources, we make a contribution every day. Product highlight – PiWi
Environmentally friendly, sustainable & delicious: Piwis (fungus-resistant grape varieties, also called Pioneer WInes) are particularly future-proof and sustainable.
Thanks to their enormous resistance to diseases, winegrowers can greatly reduce their plant protection measures. This significantly reduces the burden on soil and water and protects beneficial organisms. Overall, the cultivation of PiWi vines reduces CO2 emissions by almost half.
In cooperation with REWE, we have created a Cabernet Blanc that proves that it is possible to combine quality, flavour and sustainable cultivation and to invest in the future of winemaking.
Bottle cleaning without chemicals
At Reh Kendermann, bottles are rinsed with water, then pre-heated and sterilised with steam. The pipes in production are also only rinsed with steam and hot water. This makes our winery one of the few wineries that use this gentle process without chemicals. This means that both, employees and customers, are not exposed to any chemical substances.
Complex wastewater treatment protects the local wastewater infrastructure.
Energy analysis systems help to constantly monitor and optimise energy flows at all stages of the value chain.
Active collaboration with our partners enables a constant reduction in transport emissions.

Social Responsibility – 14 Homes
In 2010, the 14 Homes project was launched in cooperation with our Napier winery in South Africa. 14 modern houses were built for the 14 families of farm labourers who live on the estate. The aim of this project is to offer the farm labourers not only a roof over their heads, but also a modern, comfortable, safe and functional home for themselves and their families. Education is also provided: Napier pays the school fees for the farm workers’ children and pays for their transport to and from school. There is an education foundation for all children who wish to continue their education and a day nursery for all children under the age of five. Workshops are offered for the farm workers to strengthen their life skills.
