Carl Reh senior set up a trading company for grapes, must and wine in Leiwen in the Mosel valley and built his first winery of scale just seven years later.

Reh Kendermann GmbH Weinkellerei is based in the town of Bingen and is Germany’s largest export winery, bringing German wine to the world. Black Tower is Reh Kendermann’s flagship and the world’s favourite German wine brand with annual sales of over 10 million bottles. In addition, Reh Kendermann distributes other renowned wine brands and also owns the Carl Reh wine estate in Oprisor in the south-west of Romania with 252 hectares of vineyards.

1936
Carl Reh senior was the first producer in the Mosel to buy vineyards capable of producing top quality as well as to store wine in neutral glass-lined tanks.
1949
Carl Reh senior received the State Award of Honour for his outstanding achievements in viticulture from the Minister for Agriculture, Viticulture and Forestry.
1956
One of the most modern wineries in Europe with a fully automated bottling line was inaugurated in Leiwen.
1962
Carl Reh died aged 64. His son, Günther Reh, took over sole management of the company.
1987
Carl Reh junior, grandson of the company founder, took over management of the company and continues in this position to this day.
1992
Acquisition of Hermann Kendermann GmbH by Kellerei Carl Reh GmbH + Co KG together with the successful German wine brand, Black Tower.
1995
Carl Reh developed a new, racy image for Black Tower as sponsor of the Williams-Renault Formula 1 team.
1997
The two wineries, Carl Reh and Hermann Kendermann, were merged to create Reh Kendermann Weinkellerei GmbH, based in Bingen.
1999
Andrea and Carl Reh took over 100% of Reh Kendermann GmbH.
2001
Carl Reh acquired approximately 350 hectares of vineyards in south-west Romania, including the winery and vineyard buildings.
2004
The international wine magazine “Weinwelt” honoured Reh Kendermann as “Riesling Winery of the Year”.
2005
Black Tower achieved sales of 1 million 9 litre cartons.
2008
12 million bottles of Black Tower were sold, making Black Tower the best-selling German wine brand worldwide.
2009
Carl Reh received the “National Wine Entrepreneur of the Year” award from Meininger Verlag.

2011
The new bag-in-box bottling line was put into operation, doubling capacity.
2015
Reh Kendermann invested in Yapp Brothers Limited, a leading importer of French wines in England.
2015
Alexander Rittlinger, previously Head of Domestic Sales and Marketing, tookover management of the company, together with Carl Reh.
2016
Modern product innovations under the Black Tower brand were launched internationally. Both the flavoured drinks segment and a separate organic range were added to the brand.
2017
Reh Kendermann took over Napier Vineyards winery in Wellington, South Africa, thus continuing its path of distributing premium products.
2020
Reh Kendermann celebrated its centenary, looking back at 100 years of tradition, celebrating its anniversary with a relaunch of the successful Black Tower brand.
2021
A newly built tank storage area was put into operation, with space for around 5.5 million litres of wine.
